Prepare your skin for autumn

When we think of transitioning seasons, we think of adjusting bedtimes and changing our wardrobes… but have you considered how you might need to adapt your skincare regime too? Temperature changes are not kind to any skin, let alone those of us who suffer with sensitive or dry skin! Luckily, there are things you can do to heal some of the damage, and prepare your skin for the colder months ahead…

1. Still use SPF

You should use SPF products all year around – don’t let those grey clouds fool you! Those UVB rays can still reach your skin. If you don’t want to use SPF on top of your normal skincare routine, try using a 2-in-1 like Temple Spa’s LIFE DEFENCE which is a SPF 30 Moisturiser.

2. Smooth skin requires exfoliation.

If your skin is rough from a summer of outdoor activities or dry from soaking up all that gorgeous sun, it is time to break out the exfoliator. You can do this at home with a Natural Spa Factory scrub or Temple Spa’s SUGAR BUFF, or get it professionally done at the spa with The Outer Glow treatment. Either way, exfoliating off that summer skin layer will reveal smooth skin and improve the absorption of other skin products – like your body lotion or moistier!

3. Give your feet some TLC.

When the ground is dry and warm, and the grass or sand feels so good – who needs shoes? The only issue with not wearing shoes and socks is how much it hardens the skin of our feet. Give your feet the love they deserve by exfoliating and covering with a lotion or moisturising cream. This is best done before bed, with some socks over your feet to help seal in the moisturising cream. You can also visit the spa for a deluxe pedicure, where they will perform a hard skin removal, cuticle and nail work, massage and application of polish to take home with you.

4. Repair your lips

If the summer sun and chlorine from swimming pools doesn’t leave our lips dry and cracked enough, that autumn wind will work its cool magic. Prepare your lips by exfoliating with a lip scrub (or your toothbrush…) then applying a good lip balm on top. We sell the luxury lip balm from Temple Spa (ALL TALK) which is packed full of natural plant extracts, vitamins, and botanicals to leave your lips sensationally soft and nourished.

5. Choose cold weather appropriate skincare products.

When the cold weather arrives with a shock in September to October, it is important to make sure your skincare routine is full of products that replenish moisture. Whereas we might adopt lighter weight products in the summer, richer creams that intensely moisturize and nourish the skin are better in winter. If you don’t use serums, perhaps now is the time to invest in one! Read our guide here to find out more about serums.

6. Schedule a day at Imagine Spa
