Serail Chamber - What exactly is it?
You might have seen the words “Serail Mud Chamber” pop up on some of our Imagine Spa treatment menus or offer pages and wondered what it means… well, here is our guide!
What is it?
The Rasul spa treatment (otherwise known as Serial Mud treatment) is based on an ancient ritual in which medicinal mud from the Greek Isle of Limnos originally was used. This mud is no longer used however, due to the pH being too acidic. Ours actually comes from the Austrian Alps!
The serail chamber itself is like a special steam room, designed to enhance the benefits of the mud treatment.
Benefits?
Of course! The “mud” part of this treatment is incredibly mineral-rich and will leave your skin feeling soft-as-silk. It also has a special ability to act as an antibiotic treatment when applied topically to the skin, so can help calm the skin and quicken the recovery of minor wounds. It also aids skin regeneration and makes hair strong and soft by strengthening the connective tissue in hair.
This treatment also warms the muscles, making it the perfect treatment before a massage – especially if you are after a deep tissue massage!
So, what exactly happens?
First, you’ll be introduced to the chamber and shown where everything is. It’s important to stay hydrated during this treatment, which is why you’ll be left with some water for drinking. A therapist will ensure you are comfortable and familiar with the treatment, before leaving the chamber.
This is when your treatment really begins! You will have a few minutes to apply the mud to face, scalp, hair and body. If you’re with your partner, it can be fun to apply it on each other. Once you are happy with the amount of mud, you sit either side of the chamber and enjoy the room’s heated temperature. The chamber then fills with steam to help the mud bake – but not harden!
After some time of the chamber being filled with steam, a gentle shower will help keep you cool and stop the mud drying. This process repeats for 40 minutes – a great time to catch up! At the end, you’ll be allowed some time to shower in the adjacent room. Aside from removing any leftover mud, this shower is to wake you up and bring down your body temperature.
Once you’ve finished in the chamber, you should rest for about 20 minutes. Remember to moisturise your skin, then head to our relaxation chamber and take some further me time.
Do I need to bring a friend or partner?
Of course not! If you’re seeking some true me-time, you can book the chamber for one person instead of two.
What if there are more than two of us?
Our chamber was built for two people, so unfortunately, we can only fit two people in at a time. This creates a more intimate treatment. If more than two of you are interested, simply ask about booking one after the other. If you ask our therapists when booking, they’ll find a way to make sure everyone is happy!

Sometimes we have seasonal muds, so depending on the time of year you visit it could smell like chocolate, a fruity cocktail or a festive mulled wine.
There are also little extras you can add on like our seasonal scrub, a Moroccan oil hair mask or a glass of bubbly. Just ask your spa for more details!
