Makeup Trends for Spring/Summer 2020

FUN!  It’s a simple as that!  Spring’s 2020 makeup trend is mixing it up with intensely pigmented shades, bright neon, glossy textures and lots and lots of sparkle.  No-makeup makeup fans are out of luck, that look is so last year, it’s time to put some colour back in your life; and in your makeup bag too.

These are the top trends and how you can wear them...

Ombre Eyes

This look pretty much screams summer festival.  You can choose whichever combo of colours your heart desires, from three shades to five.

Try the trend:  Prep eye lids with an eyeshadow primer, then working from the inside corner outwards across the eye lid, stripe each colour vertically in turn, then using a clean brush blend the colours where they meet.

Contrasting Combos

Wearing contrasting, or even clashing eyeshadow shades is one of the coolest ways to experiment with colour this spring.  Shades that are opposites on the colour wheel work best.

Try the trend:  Try burnt orange and bright blue cream or powder eyeshadows.  Sweep one shade across your lids and the other under your lower lash line.  Finish off the look with lashings of black mascara.

Glitter Eyes

Sparkle, sparkle everywhere, and so pretty too.

Try the trend:  Pair smudgy black eyeliner with silver glitter underneath your eyes.

Neon Cats Eye

Who doesn’t love a cat eye? Just make sure to swap your black liquid liner for a bright, neon-coloured one.

Try the trend:  Use a bright green eyeliner (liquid or gel pencil, whichever you prefer) to draw on a thick, winged look.

White Liner

If the neon cat eye is a little avant-garde for you then the white liner look could be your compromise.  It’s a strong look but not quite so “out there”, fun, fresh, and up-to-the-minute.

Try the trend: Grab a soft, white eye pencil and use it to line your eyes or create a cute flick.

Gloss, Gloss, Gloss

Chanel models rocked the gloss on their lips, eyes, and skin... and its set to be a huge spring look.

Try the trend:  Use clear, lightweight face gloss and tap it on your lids, cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and on your lips; on top of makeup or on bare skin (if you have a flawless complexion).

Red Lips

Ever present on the runway, year in year out, the classic red lip.  The twist for 2020 is a combo of matte, cherry-red lipstick, clean skin, and bold brows.

Try the trend: Prep is paramount for a matte finish, otherwise flakes and roughness are amplified, use your regular face scrub mixed with some Vaseline to exfoliate the lips, swipe on a red  an you’re done.

Goth Lipstick

Pink lips… no way! Vampy, almost-black lipstick looks totally badass, especially against neutral clothes.

Try the trend: Hydrate your lips with a lip balm first, line lips to prevent bleeding then swipe on a dark violet or black lipstick.  Pair it with a sheer, grey shadow on your lids, stunning!

...And there you have it, all the tips and tricks to be bang on trend next spring.
