How to Create a Cosy Spa Night at Home
We know (possibly better than anyone...) that there’s nothing quite like escaping to the spa for a few hours of peace and pampering. We also know that sometimes, a trip to the spa is just not possible. Fear not though, if you're in need of a little “me time” without leaving the house, creating a cosy spa night at home can be just as indulgent, and recharging for the soul. Here’s how to transform your home into your own personal spa... Imagine Spa style!
1. Set the Scene
One of the most important parts of creating a spa night at home is recreating the spa feeling. It's all about the smells, sights and sounds of your space. Start by creating a calm, comforting environment in a quiet room, if possible. Dim the lights or switch them off completely and let the glow of candles or soft fairy lights fill the room. Choose soothing scents like lavender, chamomile or sandalwood to instantly transport you into relaxation mode. A candle or air diffuser will work wonders in transporting you away... and the right fragrance can make all the difference!
For sounds, we enjoy the Repose Suite by Chris Eaton, created exclusively for TEMPLESPA treatments. You can find it on Spotify or Youtube to help transport you straight to the treatment room... If you'd prefer something a little different, we would recommend finding a playlist filled with gentle, melodic tunes or nature sounds (think ocean waves, trickling water or birdsong). The idea is to create a peaceful background that helps your mind drift away from daily stress.
To truly unwind, give yourself a few minutes to disconnect. Put your phone on silent, take some deep breaths, and be present. You could even try a short guided meditation or light some incense and simply enjoy the quiet.
2. Indulge in a Luxurious Bath (or Shower)
Run a warm bath and add bubbles, bath salts, or even a few drops of essential oil for that spa-like feel. If you don’t have a bath, a steamy shower can be just as refreshing, especially when paired with a homemade shower steamer.
To make one, simply mix one cup of bicarbonate of soda, half a cup of citric acid, and a few drops of your favourite essential oil (eucalyptus, peppermint, or lavender work beautifully). Press the mixture into small moulds or an ice cube tray, let them dry, and store them in an airtight container. When you’re ready to unwind, place a steamer on the shower floor, just out of the direct stream of water, and let the scent rise with the steam, turning your shower into a fragrant, spa-inspired escape.
Whether you choose to bathe or shower, don't forget to pair with a sugar scrub or body polish to gently exfoliate and leave your skin silky smooth. Then wrap yourself in your fluffiest towel or robe afterwards, you're at the spa now remember!
3. Treat Your Skin
Pampering your skin is the heart of any spa experience. Start with a gentle face cleanse, then apply a face mask suited to your skin type. While the mask works its magic, apply a nourishing hand cream or body lotion to lock in hydration and treat yourself to a little hand or arm massage. Small, circular motions help increase blood flow and make your skin feel instantly softer.
You can even help recreate that spa glow with a jade roller or gua sha, tools that help boost circulation and leave your skin feeling rejuvenated. Start at the neck, gently sweeping upward to encourage lymphatic drainage. Move along the jawline, gliding your tool from the chin towards the ears. Then work from the centre of the face outwards, following the contours of your cheeks and under-eye area to reduce puffiness and promote a lifted look. Finish on the forehead, using upward strokes towards the hairline for a smooth, relaxing finish.
4. Sip, Relax, and Enjoy
Once you’ve pampered, polished and unwound, take a moment to nourish your body from the inside too.
Why not brew a warming herbal tea - chamomile, peppermint, or lemon balm are all perfect for promoting relaxation and easing you into a restful night’s sleep. If you’d prefer something more refreshing, try infused water with slices of cucumber, lemon, or fresh berries for a refreshing twist. For a more indulgent touch, create your own spa-style mocktail! Pair sparkling water with muddled mint, cucumber ribbons, and a squeeze of lime makes for a beautifully crisp drink that feels every bit as special as a cocktail.
Find a quiet corner, wrap yourself in a cosy blanket, and take slow, mindful sips of your drink of choice. Enjoy this moment to recharge, and reconnect with yourself, just as you might in a relaxation room at the spa.
While nothing compares to a visit to an actual, we hope our guide for a cosy night at home still brings some of that experience into your own home! If you'd like to visit an Imagine Spa though, please find your nearest here.
